Nepal Info

Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of bio-diversity due to its unique geographical position and altitude variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 meters above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters, all within a distance of 150 kilometers resulting in climatic conditions from sub-tropical to arctic. This wild variation fosters an incredible variety of ecosystems, the greatest mountain range on earth, thick tropical jungles teeming with a wealth of wildlife, thundering rivers, forested hills and frozen valleys.

Within this spectacular geography is also one of the richest cultural landscapes anywhere. The country is a potpourri of ethnic groups and sub-groups who speak over 93 languages and dialects. Nepal offers an astonishing diversity of sightseeing attractions and adventure opportunities found nowhere else on earth. And you can join in the numerous annual festivals that are celebrated throughout the year in traditional style highlighting enduring customs and beliefs.

Nepal offers a wide range of geographical diversity; an incomparable blend of high mountains and rich cultures. Nepal embrace the central Himalayan range, 1310 magnificent peaks over 6000 meters including eight of the world's highest 14 peaks of 8000 meters, rushing river, rolling terraced hills; lush, steamy tropics and high altitude plains reminiscent of Tibet. Nepal has geographically 3 major regions

1. Himalayan Region:

The altitude of this region ranges between 4877 m to 8848m. It includes eight of the 14 highest summits in the world, which exceed altitude of 8848 m including Mt. Everest, Annpurna, Dhawalagiri and others. Himalayan range makes up northern border of the country and represents 16% of the total land of Nepal. Sparse vegetation is found up to 4500m. Some of Nepal’s most beautiful animal and plant life are also found here. Although rare, the snow leopard and Daphne bird are found here. The people in this region produce and sell yak cheese besides working as porters and guides. Many also trade with Tibet and travel across the border to sell their goods.\

2. Middle Hill Region:

This region accounts for about 65 percent of the total land of Nepal. It is formed by the Mahabharat range that soars from 500m up to 4877m and the lower Churia range including Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. During the summer the temperature reaches an average 32 degrees Celsius. Winters are cold, the temperature reaches 1 degree Celsius sometimes. The eastern parts of this region receive more rainfalls because of the monsoon clouds coming from the southeast. The rivers in the west, do not receive much rainfall, and are dependent upon melted snow that flows down from the Himalaya. Different kind of birds and wildlife are found here. The people in the region have gained from the growth in the tourism industry.

3. Terai Region:

The lowland Terai occupies about 17 percent of the total land area of the country. It provides excellent farming lands. The average elevation of these flatlands is 65 to 500m. Above sea level. Sub-tropical forest areas, marshes and wildlife, which include the Royal Bengal Tiger, one horned rhinoceros and the gharial crocodile, are found the area
