Geographically, Tibet can be divided into three major parts - north, south and east. The eastern part is forest region, occupying approximately one-fourth of the land. Virgin forests run the entire breadth and length of this part of Tibet. The northern part is open grassland, where nomads and yak and sheep dwell here. This part occupies approximately half of Tibet. The southern and central part is agricultural region, occupying about one-fourth of Tibet’s land area. All major Tibetan cities and towns such as Lhasa, Shigatse, Gyantse and Tsetang are located in this area and are considered the cultural center of Tibet.

Itinerary of Tiber overland Tour:

  • Day 01: Kathmandu (1300m) to Zhangmu (2500m): 123 km
    Early morning scenic drive to Kodari (Nepal-Tibet boarder) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside and start a short walk (approx. 1 & half hrs.) uphill with porters to Zhangmu immigration and drive (1.5 hrs) to Nyalam. Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 02: Zhangmu to Xegar (4350m): 244 km
    Day drive to uphill to highest plateau of the world with the typical view of Tibetan landscape offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world crossing over Nyalamu pass (3800m) and Lalung La (5050m) weather permitting breathing panorma of the beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt Everest (8848m.) but dwarfed by the vastness of the Tibetan plateau. Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 03: Xegar to Xigatse (3900m): 244 km
    Continue scenic drive crossing over Gyatchu La (5220m.) the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse from where a road to Mt. Kailash bifurcates to the west. On the way visit Shakya Monastery. Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 04: Xigatse to Gyantse (3950m): 90 km
    Morning sightseeing to the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery and Market in Xigatse. Drive to Gyantse and visit to the Kumbum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery. Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 05: Gyantse to Lhasa (3650m): 261 km
    Full day picturesque drive crossing over Karo La (5010m.), Kamba La (4794m.), colorful Yamdrok Lake and Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo). Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 06-07: In Lhasa
    Two full days sightseeing tour to Lhasa including Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazaar, Potala Palace, Drepung & Sera Monasteries & Norbulinkha. Over night at Hotel.
  • Day 08: Lhasa to Kathmandu
    Early morning drive to Gongaar airport for departure flight to Kathmandu.
