NTB in search of US woman presumed missing
KATHMANDU May 13 :
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) - in coordination with tourist police in the command of a DSP - is in the search of a presumed missing 23-year-old Aubrey Sacco of Greeley, Colorado, USA.
She is presumed to be missing around the remote Langtang region since April 20. "The local also have mount a search in the remote region," according to NTB that is also investigating the local areas and going through TIMS counter to collect important data that might help to trace her out.
"Aubrey Sacco has not been heard from since April 20 as she set out on a week-long hike through the Himalayas, north of Kathmandu and bordering Tibet," her father Paul Saccois quoted as saying. "US Senetor Mark Udall of Colorado has issued a directive urging the US embassy in Nepal to begin an investigation."
"Our plan is to bring to bear all the local pressure we can to find her," he said adding that the embassy, the Nepal government and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), local police, as well as local Sherpas have volunteered to help to find her.
His daughter, who graduated from the University of Colorado with degrees in psychology and art last year, is a 'very experienced' world traveller, but never goes more than a couple of days without touching base, according to him.
"That's the paradox," he is quoted as saying, "She may be in a place where she can't communicate with others. It's a very remote area."
She began the trek at Syabrubesi and planned to follow the Lonely Planet hiking guide through the Langtang National Park. She is scheduled to return to US on Saturday. She has been travelling alone in South Asia for five months to teach yoga, English and art.
Paul Sacco thinks that many Coloradoans hiking in the region might have seen her or someone knows travelling there who can help to search her. He is hopeful she is just overdue and has been unable to communicate by phone or e-mail.
"She's a courageous little girl," he said, "She's fearless and she's very strong. My gut tells me she's fine, but we haven't heard from her and we're worried."
