Difficulty
On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate this trek just 5. To put it briefly, it’s a moderate-level trip that does not call for any prior trekking expertise. Any age group of trekkers who are reasonably fit are capable of finishing the hike without any issues.
But, it would be beneficial if you prepared well before the hike. Since you are walking in Nepal’s hilly terrain, unforeseen circumstances might arise. Therefore, it would be beneficial if you were ready to face any obstacles or problems that may arise.
Best seasons
The periods of September through December and March through May are the ideal times to hike the Langtang Valley. The mountains and blooming woodlands are well seen throughout these times of year. It becomes warm enough in the spring (March, April, and May) and fall (September, November, and December) for you to stroll around in shorts and t-shirts during the day.
All year round, nevertheless, this trek is feasible if some concessions and repercussions are considered. In the Langtang area, weather conditions may fluctuate greatly. If there is excessive rainfall within this area, there is a possibility of severe landslides.
Furthermore, the temperature may go below zero degrees Celsius with ease. There’s also a potential for significant snowfall, which might eventually obstruct the path.
Altitude Sickness
While hiking in the hills, altitude sickness may strike anybody at any moment. As soon as you begin trekking in Nepal, you will undoubtedly gain considerable altitude. However, unlike the Everest area, the Langtang Valley Trek doesn’t transport you to extremely high heights.
Nevertheless, Langtang has hundreds of instances of altitude sickness. Thus, ensure that your body has adjusted to the altitude appropriately.
Additionally, if you do have altitude sickness, go down as soon as you can. Once you’re in a safe altitude, relax for a while until you can gather your thoughts. Then begin rising, but this time, stop frequently to relax, and you’ll be alright.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
The well-known rest area previously mentioned is home to a large number of tea establishments. The majority of these tea shops are well-maintained and recently constructed. The mattress is tidy and cozy. But at the busiest time of year, the lodges in Langtang village are quite packed, so make sure to reserve your lodging well in advance.
A dining room with a flexible menu and central heating is also available in the lodgings. You are provided with a variety of hot and nutritious foods, so you don’t have to worry about nutrition. The shared restroom is the other issue. Lodging establishments are not likely to have private restrooms for any sleeping rooms.
Teahouses provide a wide variety of drinks, including non-alcoholic choices. However, since both caffeine and alcohol dry out the body of water, it is best to avoid them in high altitudes, despite the fact that there are plenty of options accessible throughout the walk.
Staying hydrated during your hike might help you prevent major health issues like altitude sickness. In order for you to successfully finish the walk, it also helps you stay healthy and well-hydrated.
The 11-day Langtang Valley Trek package covers all your accommodations and food (3 meals per day) but it will not cover any of your drinks.
Transportation
All the land transportation required by the itinerary such as transport to the starting point of the trek, Syabrubesi, and transport to Kathmandu from the ending point of the trek, pick up and drop off at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and more, will be covered by the trek package. As your travel partner, we will manage all the transport needs for you.
Permit
The Langtang National Park Entry permit and the TIMS card are the two permissions needed to hike the Langtang. Trekking in the Langtang area requires the possession of certain permits. Along the path, there are several checkpoints wherein you have to provide your license. It is, therefore, preferable to obtain them from Kathmandu, however, you may still receive permits at the counter in Langtang.
Trip preparation and fitness
The intermediate Langtang Valley Trek is appropriate for hikers who can walk over and down hills for five to six hours each day while having a daypack. Certain days go even longer, requiring seven to eight hours of up-and-down walking, which increases the need for physical conditioning. It is thus preferable to train before going on a hike.
We recommend that you begin lengthy walks or trekking no fewer than three a week, 3 to 4 weeks before your expedition. To increase your strength while carrying your daypack, walk up and down for five to six hours. If there are no mountains or hills nearby hiking, jogging, or cardio workouts at the gym are still effective, especially knee-strengthening exercises.
Gadgets charging & Internet
Plugs are standard in tea establishments all the way up to the Lama Hotel. In the event that they don’t, there is no cost for charging in the eating area. Things get trickier as you approach Langtang village, though. For the following three days, you will need to pay an extra fee at reception for charging your electrical devices.
Wi-Fi is accessible all the way up to Kyanging. Nevertheless, Wi-Fi costs $1 to $2 and is not included in your Langtang Valley Trek package. Wi-Fi isn’t very fast; you can browse the internet but not publish a really decent video.
What to expect
The Langtang Valley is an isolated area with few structures. Other than shipping or hauling your things, there are no other forms of transportation. Things are pricey for this reason alone.
As you travel up in altitude, food and water prices usually increase. The cost of a liter of water might be very high. The locals have to put forth a lot of effort to obtain everything they need for everyday living.
There are many among you who will miss the comforts of home. The hot shower, the cozy bed, and the abundance of decadent cuisine will all be missed. These situations never stop causing mental strain. The secret to overcoming these difficulties is self-motivation.
